DAY 1 : CASABLANCA — EL JADIDA (1 hour drive)
Your Morocco Private Photography Tour starts by picking you up at the airport in Casablanca. Then, follow the Atlantic coast and stop in Azemmour for a wander. Reach El Jadida and drop the luggage at the hotel. Later, go out for a stroll around the Portuguese old quarter and the water cistern where scenes of Welles’ ‘Othello’ were shot. Dinner and accommodation in an old restored Church.
DAY 2: EL JADIDA- OUALIDIA-SAFI- ESSAOUIRA (4 HOUR DRIVE)
Follow the Atlantic coast and make a stop at the Bird Habitats between Sid Moussa and Cap Beddouza. Have lunch at La Sultana in Oualidia lagoon. Later, stop in Safi and tour the pottery workshops, Safi being the birthplace of Moroccan ceramics. Arrive in Essaouira in the afternoon. Spend the afternoon in the woodworker’s souk and visit the ramparts till sunset for the best light of photography. Accommodation and dinner in a riad inside the Medina with Seaview.
DAY 3 : ESSAOUIRA.
Spend the morning touring the white washed medina with its art galleries, bustling cafes, music in the air and farniente ambiance. Have lunch in town and spend the afternoon observing and photographing port life. Accommodation as per the previous night.
DAY 4 : ESSAOUIRA- MARRAKECH (3 HR DRIVE)
Spend more time at the port if desired or leave for Marrakech after breakfast. On the way out of Essaouira, notice the goats up in the argan trees. Arrive in Marrakech. Time allowing, drop by and visit Majorelle Gardens just before closure time ( 5 PM). Drop off the luggage at the riad and go out for a stroll. Jemaa El Fna after dark is the quintessence of Marrakech: food stalls, story tellers, witch doctors, street hawkers and charlatans galore mingle and coalesce into a permanent tumult. Your driver will be off. Dinner and accommodation in a riad inside the Medina.
DAY 5 : MARRAKECH.
A private English speaking guide will uncover Marrakech and its treasures for you. The best is to start with the Bahia Palace and the ruined Badi Palace. Next door, the imposing marble columns of the golden dynasty , the Saadis, adorn the mausoleums. The small yet very richly decorated Douiria is a fine example of crafts and architecture from two centuries ago. Late afternoon, have a tea at the legendary La Mamounia and stroll around the most romantic gardens in Marrakech. Accommodation as per the previous night.
DAY 6 : MARRAKECH- TINMEL — TIZI N TEST — OULED BERHIL — TAROUDANT (5 HOUR DRIVE)
Your driver will meet you at your riad at 9 AM. Cross the village of Asni and then take up the High Atlas mountains. Stop and visit the mosque of Tinmel, from 13th century. After many twists and turns, reach the mountain pass at 2000 meters high. From there, the wide panorama of the South unfolds. Descend onto the plain of Taroudant. Drop off the luggage at the hotel and freshen up. In the evening, go out for a caleche ride around the 16th century city walls or treasure- hunt around the souks.. Dinner and accommodation in a riad inside the Medina.
DAY 7 : TAROUDANT — IGHREM — TAFRATOUTE ( 3 HOUR DRIVE)
Leave Taroudant behind and take on the Anti Atlas mountains. On the way, stop in Frejia to admire the local kasbah. Later, reach Ighrem at 1800 meters high and then visit a stunning granary where locals use to stock their grains. Arrive in Tafraoute early afternoon. Tour the valley of Ameln for stunning photos. Have a tour around the Painted Rocks and Napoleon’s hat. Dinner and accommodation in a hotel with the best view.
DAY 8 : TAFRAOUTE — SMOUGEN — ICHT ( 3 HOUR DRIVE)
Head south and enter one of the most scenic canyons of Morocco, the mounts and elevations resembling the landscapes in Utah or Arizona. Stop in Smougen for a tea and admire the palm groves etched in between the mesas. Later, visit a nomad family. Stop in a women cooperative and admire the local crafts. Arrive in Icht late afternoon. Dinner and accommodation in a hotel in the middle of nowhere.
DAY 9 : ICHT — AMTOUDI — ICHT ( 3 HOUR DRIVE)
Travel to Amtoudi and visit one of the two granaries overhanging above the village. Afterwards, penetrate into the majestic gorges and walk by the natural pools and flinty hollows with a local guide. Return to Icht in the evening. Dinner and accommodation as previously.
DAY 10 : ICHT — AKKA — AIT KINE — AKKA IGHREM — FOUM ZGUID ( 5 HOUR DRIVE).
After breakfast, stop in the palm grove of Akka and admire the stunted century- old mosque, left there probably by the Saadi dynasty, at the time of the gold trade. Before reaching Tata, stop in Ait Kine and visit the granary and the nearby medersa testimonies to the importance of the area in the times of yore. Later, past Tata, take a turn left and visit a restored ksar in Akka Ighrem, where the locals have reinvested their old dwellings. Arrive in Foum Zguid late afternoon. Dinner and accommodation in a local hotel.
DAY 11 : FOUM ZGUID — ERG CHIGAGA ( 3 HOUR DRIVE)
Have breakfast and set out into the wilderness, the Sahara Desert. Cobblestones, gravel, sand and shingles alternate before reaching the majestic dunes of Erg Chigaga. On the way, pluck fossils. Meet your camel man and arrive at the camp by camel. Dinner and accommodation in a luxury tent at a luxury desert camp.
DAY 12 : ERG CHIGAGA- MHAMID — TAMEGROUTE — ZAGORA (4 HOUR DRIVE)
Spend most of the morning around the dunes. Later, get back into the 4×4 and stop on the way for tea with the nomads or to see a well in the desert. After a couple of hours of driving, reach M’hamid and the tarmac. Follow the palm grove along the Draa Valley and stop in Tamegroute, where the century old medersa and library are complemented by the green glazed pottery and the ovens. Reach Zagora later in the afternoon. (Make a stop at Amezrou for silver jewelry). Dinner and accommodation in a local lodge.
DAY 13 : ZAGORA- TAMNOUGALT-AGDZ- TAMEDAGHT (3 hr drive)
Not far from Zagora, the Kasbah of Tamnougalt commands the surroundings with its lofty walls and citadel, having been a major stop for the caravans following their route to Marrakech for centuries. Biblical villages succeed each other, with various tinges of ochre, as the sunlight shifts. Later, enter the gorges and leave the palm grove behind. Cross Ouarzazate and stop at Ait Benhaddou before sunset for photography. Afterwards continue to Tamedaght to reach the quiet village of Tamedaght, where the local kasbah was used as a setting in ‘Gladiator’. Dinner and accommodation in a local Kasbah.
DAY 14: TAMEDAGHT — TELOUET — TIZI N’TICHKA — MARRAKECH ( 4 hour DRIVE).
Early morning visit of Ait Ben Haddou for best light of photography and exploring kasbah, return to hotel for breakfast. Then, take on the Ounila valley with its derelict kasbahs and terraced cultures to arrive in Telouet and visit the kasbah. Have lunch in the village to then cross the high Atlas Mountains and reach 2260m high at the famous pass of Tizi N’tichka. Reach Marrakech late afternoon. Dinner and accommodation in a riad inside the Medina.
DAY 15: MARRAKECH — CASABLANCA AIRPORT ( 3 hour DRIVE).
Depending on your flight, your driver will be there to take you to the airport in Casablanca. You should be there two hours before your flight. End of your Morocco Private Photography Tour.
